Question of the Week: In Preparation
Ash Wednesday begins our Lenten journey to Triduum. This journey offers us 40 days to be transformed through the traditional Lenten practices of prayer, fasting and alms giving. What will I embrace in each of these areas to deepen my discipleship? Perhaps we can take a cue from Catholic Household Blessings & Prayers: "May our fasting be hunger for justice; our alms a making of peace; our prayer, the chant of humble and grateful hearts."
First Sunday of Lent
In what ways does the devil try to deceive me or entice me? In other words, what are the temptations in my life? How do these temptations hinder my ability to see myself and others as persons created in the image of God?
Second Sunday of Lent
When Peter, James and John were experiencing the transfiguration of Jesus, the voice of God said: "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased, LISTEN to him." How do I listen to the Lord? What distractions do I need to removed from my life to be able to really listen? How does listening to the Lord deepen my discipleship and challenge me? How does it encourage and grace me?
Third Sunday of Lent
What strikes me about the conversation between Jesus and the Samaritan woman? How has my relationship with the Lord grown over time? In what ways do I 'evangelize' and share my faith story with others?
Fourth Sunday of Lent
Jesus sought out the blind man and asked him: "Do you believe?"
Jesus asks me the same question:
How does my answer influence and direct my life?
“We can study the whole history of salvation,
we can study the whole of Theology,
but without the Spirit we cannot understand.
It is the Spirit that makes us realize the truth or
– in the words of Our Lord –
it is the Spirit that makes us know the voice of Jesus.”
— Pope Francis
