Religious Education & Faith Formation

“In the Christian community the disciples of Jesus Christ are nourished at a twofold table; ‘that of the word of God and that of the Body of Christ’. The Gospel and the Eucharist are the constant food for the journey to the Father’s House.  The action of the Holy Spirit operates so that the gift of ‘communion’ and the task of ‘mission’ are deepened and lived in an increasingly intense way. Continuing formation in the faith is directed not only to the individual Christian, to accompany them in their journey towards holiness, but also to the Christian community as such so that it may mature also in its interior life of love of God and of sisters and brothers as well as in its openness to the world as a missionary community.”

(General Directory for Catechesis, 70)

Religious Education in our parish seeks to live out this vision set forth in the Church. From womb to tomb, members of the community are nourished through our various programs and processes that seek to fashion a people as disciples of Christ. Through our sacramental preparation programs, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, Children’s Word, youth ministry, outreach to the Auraria Campus, and Adult Education offerings, we seek to form and inform a community of faith that matures both inwardly and outwardly. Ultimately, as disciples we seek to heed the Great Commission (Matthew 28), sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with all.

Children's & Youth Religious Education

We have a number of programs for children and youth available.  Our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program, for children ages 3-kindergarten, meets on Sundays during the 9:00 Mass.  Children's Word, for children in grades 1-6, is also offered during the 9:00 Mass, during the Liturgy of the Word.  Here is our current schedule for Good Shepherd and Children's Word:  2011 Childrens RE Sched REVISED

Faith in Film Series

Our Faith in Film Series was such a success this past Lent that we have decided to continue having a potluck dinner, film and discussion series, held on the first Wednesday of the month at 6pm in the dining room.  Here are upcoming films:

Wednesday, June 1:
The Island (Ostrov) is a 2006 Russian biographical film about a fictional 20th century Eastern Orthodox monk. The film closed the 2006 Venice Film Festival and won both the Nika Award and the Golden Eagle Award as the Best Russian film of 2006. The filming location was the city of Kem, in Karelia, on the shores of the White Sea. The story begins during World War II, the sailor Anatoly and his captain, Tikhon, are captured by the Nazis when they board their barge and tugboat which is carrying a shipment of coal. The Nazi officer leading the raid offers Anatoly the choice to shoot Tikhon and stay alive which Anatoly reluctantly takes, and Tikhon falls overboard. The Nazis blow up the ship but Anatoly is found by Russian Orthodox monks on the shore the next morning. He survives and becomes a stoker at the monastery but is perpetually overcome with guilt.  Then the story begins. . .
